Longtime Tisdale resident looking for seat on town council

After 25 years of living in Tisdale, Marilyn Baker is looking for a seat on town council.

Baker was involved with Tisdale Minor Ball for four years, and the public library board for nine years where she has been board chair for three years. She currently sits on the recreation and parks board.

“I believe in taking care of the entire community as a whole and recognizing the diverse needs of everybody in it,” Baker said. “I just want Tisdale to thrive as a community and be a more attractive place to live.”

The standing council is made up of all men, and Baker is proud to see that there are several women on this year’s ballot.

“We just believe that there should be a more diversified opinion that’s given on events and programming that is brought toward council,” Baker said.

With building the community with more businesses and jobs, Baker said the COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t seem to have affected the town too much.

“As long as this pandemic continues, I’m sure everyone is willing and we are trying to support our community as much as possible,” Baker said. “Small businesses are our priority.”

She currently works at the Caterpillar dealer, Finning Canada.

“I see Tisdale growing and I see it as a safe community where people want to raise their families but as we are growing there are more services so we need to enable the continued growth in the economy,” Baker said.

Saskatchewan municipal elections take place Monday, Nov. 9.
