Jewel Charles and Christopher Halkett are the recipients of scholarships awarded by La Ronge Native Women’s Council.

Charles received the Mary Heimbecker Annual Scholarship, which is given to a student entering their first year of post-secondary studies. The Margaret Beament Annual Scholarship was awarded to Halkett, who is in her final year of post-secondary studies. Each scholarship is worth $1,000.

Beament and Heimbecker are honoured by the scholarships for their hard work and dedication to giving a voice to those in need. An announcement states their vision for change was ground-breaking, as they pursed funding for many organizations that still stand in the community.

“Their commitment to the community and the North continues through the work of the La Ronge Native Women’s Council Inc.,” the release notes. “Their leadership is admirable. Through this scholarship, we honour Mary and Margaret and it is our hopes that we can help pave the way for future leaders who are as committed as Mary Heimbecker and Margaret Beament.”
