Life-long resident and early childhood educator running for city council in Humboldt

The list of city council candidates in Humboldt includes a life-long resident and early childhood educator.

Caitlin Senko told northeastNOW she wants to bring her past experience in advertising as well as insurance to the table.

“These things have given me a lot of insight into the community and how things work,” Senko said. “I have developed a lot of relationships with the business owners in Humboldt through those venues.”

She decided to put her name on the ballot because the community she lives and grew up in is very important to her.

“I have seen Humboldt grow and change so much, especially in the last five to 10 years and I really want to be part of the community and part of making it flourish and thrive even more,” Senko said.

Senko is community minded and has been involved with the Arts Humboldt group for several years . She is currently the vice president.

“I think it’s important to have that arts and culture and family and youth programming,” Senko said.

Senko resides in the city with her husband and two-year-old son.

Large projects like the lagoon expansion to help improve the quality of life for residents are extremely important for Senko, as well as roads and smaller projects like supporting groups and businesses that help develop a sense of community.

“I want to also make sure that everyone in Humboldt has a voice,” Senko said.

A personal trait Senko believes would make her a great addition to council is her decision-making ability and process.

“I don’t make decisions on a whim. It takes research, find out what the community thinks and take time because these things affect everyone,” Senko said.

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed some campaigning issues such as being able to go door-to-door to meet and answer questions.

Senko plans to attend a forum this month if anyone does have questions for her.
