One of the 14 Humboldt city council candidates brings over 20 years of teaching experience along with a list of community volunteering.

Carrie Ann Schemenauer-Hradeck grew up in Lake Lenore north of Humboldt which was the closest service centre and has stayed in touch with the area over the years. She now resides in the city with her family.

Schememauer-Hradecki has a background in special education, and wants to be a voice for families with children and for seniors.

“Humboldt has a very high seniors’ population,” Schemenauer-Hradecki said. “I would keep their well-being in mind and try to design this city to be accessible and a healthy place for seniors to live.”

She also wants to focus on responsible spending, community development, fiscal management, and promoting the German heritage of the city.

She has experience in retail, and was also an employee ability skills instructor at Carlton Trail College.

Economic development is also of interest to Schemenauer-Hradecki. She has spent time at R.M. meetings and she also has experience in writing proposals and working with local government.

“In my 20s, I was able to be part of a project where we interviewed elders in Humboldt and that information was placed in the Humboldt museum and a large book was made out of that,” Schemenauer-Hradecki said.

Being back in Humboldt for the past four years has Schemenauer-Hradecki wanting to really promote how wonderful and beautiful the city of Humboldt is.

“We are blessed with the services we have and the cleanliness of our city,” Schemenauer-Hradecki said. “We have a low crime rate, we have excellent shopping and local businesses and I’m just so excited to have put my name forward.”

Having the time to devote to council at this point in her life is one of the reasons Schemenauer-Hradecki wanted to get involved.

“I have this professional experience and I have a passion for this city,” Schemenauer-Hradecki said.

She is involved with the German club in Humboldt and hopes to get an Oktoberfest event going in the future. She has volunteered with the soccer league and Catholic Women’s League.

Schemenauer-Hradecki is not going door-knocking but is promoting her campaign by putting information in residents mail boxes and posting on social media.

The Humboldt all candidate’s forum takes place on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
