Safety precautions, mail-in ballots key for northeast advanced polls

Oct 29, 2020 | 2:00 PM

Northeast Saskatchewan residents can expect some additional safety precautions as they prepare to submit their ballets for the 2020 municipal elections.

In the City of Melfort’s case, some markers encouraging physical distance, personal protective equipment, and sanitization will be apparent during advanced polls.

Mail-in ballots are also more relevant while voting amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’ve probably issued about double the mail-in ballots than we did in the previous election,” Melfort City Clerk and Returning Electoral Officer Heather Audette told northeastNOW. “It’s still manageable. For anyone concerned about coming to the polls, there is a method of applying for a mail-in ballot with no contact at all. There’s no deadline to apply. Mail ballots will be accepted up to the close of polls on election day, so they can be delivered personally rather than mailed in.”

The City of Melfort also encourages voters to increase their own personal safety at the polls by wearing a mask and bringing their own black pen and pencil to the polls.

Advanced polls for the municipal elections will be held in:
