Municipal Election 2020

Retired nurse aiming for seat on Nipawin council

Oct 30, 2020 | 12:53 PM

Sheila Seiferling is one of the hopeful candidates to join Nipawin council.

Following a 30-year career as a nurse, Seiferling wants to learn more about municipal governance in the community where she and her husband raised their three daughters.

Seiferling said she had a chance to interact with the three levels of government – municipal, provincial, and federal – during her nursing career, which made her more avid to get involved with council.

“Now that I’m retired, I feel like I have the commitment and time to learn more about municipal government,” Seiferling told northeastNOW. “I’m hoping to be elected on Nipawin council to work more closely with decisions that are made in our community. And along with mayor and council, work with the people of the community to make Nipawin an even better place to raise families and live.”

As a small business owner who operates from her home, Seiferling wants to beautify the downtown area and make it more appealing for families and small businesses to move to Nipawin. She also wants to address housing issues in the town.

“People who perhaps might not be visible as homeless, but we do have a large number who are living in our community who do not have proper housing conditions to live in.”

With door knocking more challenging amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Seiferling said she’s done her distanced campaigning when seeing residents out and about in the streets.

The Nipawin and District Chamber of Commerce will host an online all candidates forum for Nipawin council candidates on Monday, Nov. 2 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The 2020 Saskatchewan municipal elections take place on Monday, Nov. 9.
