Smiles eaten in September have brought smiles to charities and programs in the northeast in October.

The money raised during Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie Campaign in September has spread its way to various organizations in Northeast Saskatchewan.

In Melfort, $5,284 was raised for the North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF). Funds will go toward equipment for lab work and the operation room in Melfort.

NCHCF Chair Peggy George said the donation makes a difference every year, but it eases the pressure amidst the coronavirus pandemic, where the only fundraising they can do is through their gift shop at the Historic Post Office.

“Just before COVID-19 hit, we had already committed to buy $95,000 worth of equipment to the Saskatchewan Health Authority to enhance healthcare in this area,” George told northeastNOW. “Both our facilities – the hospital and long-term care home – have asked us for additional funds to buy things. [The money] will be put to very good use.”

Elsewhere, Tim Hortons in Nipawin, raised $4,747 for Nipawin Handiworks, Tisdale raised $3,866 for North East Early Childhood Intervention Program, and Humboldt raised $10,092 for the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation.
