Notice of Annual General Meetings

Nov 10, 2020 | 2:10 PM

The Lakeland Curling Club (LCC) will hold its AGM on Thursday November 26, 2020 at 7:00 PM.

Immediately following the meeting, the Lakeland & District Recreational Association (LDRA) will hold its AGM.

Due to COVID-19, we will not be having the annual potluck supper & social as part of the AGM’s. To ensure physical distancing as per the public health order, seating will be limited and available by registration in advance, by emailing lakelandcurlingclub@outlook.com.

Call for Nominations
Nominations for both LCC and LDRA director positions are open. The nomination period shall be open up to and including the annual meeting and shall close at the annual meeting. If you are interested in being on either board or would like to nominate someone, consider this your opportunity. You can e-mail nominations to lakelandcurlingclub@outlook.com or bring them forward at the AGM.

Members are reminded that terms for elected directors are for two years, and consecutive terms may be held so directors with expiring terms may be re-elected.

A board functions best if it represents the membership, so nominations from all curling leagues and interested groups are encouraged.

Background
Since 1985 the LCC has operated a two-sheet curling rink in Christopher Lake, SK. We organize and promote curling, have regular leagues running during the curling season along with special events & bonspiels.

Our home is the Anderson Community Centre (formerly the Lakeland Sportsplex, renamed in 2017) that underwent significant upgrades during 2016-2018 to transform it into a year-round, multi-purpose facility.

Apart from the curling rink, the Anderson Community Centre is operated by the LDRA, and is available for rent to host large gatherings such as weddings, family reunions, tradeshows, and community events.

The LCC and LDRA work in partnership to maintain this facility, and both organizations rely on dedicated volunteers to work, raise funds, and carry out day-to-day and year-to-year operations.

Highlights of the Board Structure:
– The building is owned by the LDRA.
– We need to maintain both the LCC and LDRA for a variety of administrative reasons.
– The LDRA is a registered charity & the LCC has an annual liquor licence, both are difficult to obtain and cannot be transferred between organizations.
– The LDRA takes the lead on overall management of the facility.
– The LCC oversees curling related activities and manages the bar operations.
– Both boards typically meet once per month, usually on the same day.
– Directors may sit on (be elected to) both boards if they choose.
