North Stars fall 7-4 in La Ronge

The Battlefords North Stars fell 7-4 at the hands of the La Ronge Ice Wolves, Saturday at the Mel Hegland Uniplex in La Ronge.

Stars’ forward Mason Richey scored his first goal with the team just nine seconds into the first, while Connor Gabruch added a pair, and Ryland McNinch scored his first of the season, for the team in the loss.

In goal, Austin Schwab was pulled after allowing five goals on 19 shots, before Kristian Lyon came into the game, stopping 15-of-16 in relief.

For La Ronge, Spencer Kennedy scored twice and set up another in his team’s victory, while William Smith, Kaiden Collumb, Holden Knights and Beau Larson also added a goal apiece on the night and Ice Wolves’ captain Chad McIlwain capped the evening with an empty-netter.

La Ronge goalie, Xavier Cannon stopped 32-of-36 Stars’ shots in the win.

With the loss, the Battlefords fall to 0-3 on the season, while La Ronge improve to 2-1, after taking both games between the two sides this weekend.

The North Stars will now get a week off to rest up and regroup, before returning to action next weekend for back-to-backs Friday and Saturday, at home against Flin Flon.

Next weekend’s games will be broadcast on 1050 CJNB. The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will begin with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 7 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
