Bears sweep Sharks; Mintos fall to Wildcats

After a dramatic 2-1 overtime win on Saturday, the Prince Albert Northern Bears made it a little more convincing. The Bears’ offence completely exploded to beat the Sharks 9-5 to complete the weekend sweep.

Bears’ defender Brooklin Fry had a huge game, scoring her first two Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League goals, and adding two assists. Three of her points were in the first period, which helped give the Bears a 3-0 lead.

Captain Paris Oleksyn also had a two-goal, two-assist night. She leads the Bears with four goals, three assists, and seven points through four games. Rookie Jasmine Kohl also scored her first two goals of her AAA career. Erin Kirkland also had a pair, while Haley Kicia had a goal and an assist.

The Bears now have three wins (one in overtime) and a defeat in their first four games. They have the weekend off.

Wildcats 5 Mintos 2

The Warman Wildcats picked up their first Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League victory in their young history, defeating the Prince Albert Mintos 5-2.

Cobe Delaney had a hat trick, scoring twice in the second period as once in the third. Rookie forward Tanner Howe had both Minto games in the contest.

The Mintos (1-3) are scheduled to play the Saskatoon Contacts on Friday, 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
