Hope’s Home starts new community fundraiser in P.A.

After having to cancel so many fundraisers this year due to COVID-19, Prince Albert’s non-profit childcare service Hope’s Home had to get creative and come up with a new, socially distanced fundraiser.

Hope’s Home started a new fundraiser this week called ‘Hope the Hippo.’

Hope the Hippo is being delivered to different houses across the city, spending time in front lawns until a donation is made. The fundraiser began on November 23 and will run until December 23.

If you find Hope the Hippo on your front lawn, she will be moved within 12 hours of arriving. However, to support the cause and have Hope moved earlier, a donation can be made.

For a donation of $50 the hippo will be moved to another house, if you donate $100 you may choose whose lawn Hope the Hippo visits next. A donation of $200 will grant you a ‘hippo insurance’ meaning the hippo can not come back to your lawn, and a $500 donation will get the individual or business a special social media shoutout.

All donations will be matched by Affinity Credit Union up to $25,000.

Regional Fundraising Manager for Hope’s Home, Mickey MacGillivray said the fundraiser is taking place across the province and is doing quite well so far in its opening week.

“We have one going in Regina and one in Prince Albert, we started Monday and we have raised $3,000 between the two cities,” MacGillivray said.

To donate and be a part of the cause you can reach out to MacGillivray. She will be dropping off and picking up the hippo and taking the donations. Hope’s Home will take any form of donation, including cheque, or e-transfer.

MacGillivray explained to paNOW all proceeds raised will go toward day-to-day operations, and programming at the Prince Albert program. As a non-profit organization, Hope’s Home relies on fundraising to continue operating.

If you find Hope the Hippo in the city, stop, take a picture and hashtag ‘Hope the Hippo’ to get involved, and spread the word.
