Living Sky School Division to enact protocols Monday

Nov 29, 2020 | 9:45 PM

Living Sky School Division announced a series of new protocols following the province’s revised guidelines for COVID-19 last week, which includes mandatory mask wearing for all grades from pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 and suspension of extra-curricular activities.

The new safety measures were discussed in the days since between the province and the division. Virtual extracurricular activities/meetings can continue, while all others are on pause till further notice. Public health guidelines must be followed if school such public places like arenas, which means a limit of eight participants.

With masks now mandatory for all students, that means that they must be worn on the bus and right into the school and class rooms. They must also be worn in hallways and common areas, though mask breaks may occur at the discretion of the classroom teacher. Masks must also be worn during physical education classes, while they can be removed during recess if students follow proper distancing.

Access to schools will continue to be restricted until further notice, and any parents or visitors must enter will be required to follow all protocols currently in place.

LSSD provided two reusable masks for each student at the beginning of the school year and has disposable masks available at each school, but recommends that families purchase additional masks. Further updates will be provided by the division when necessary.

As of November 29, there are 8,239 positive cases of COVID-19, as well as 4,589 and 45 deaths. There are 286 active cases in the North West.
