Blue Mountain Adventure Park offers outdoor escape

From cross-country skiing, to winter snow tubing, outdoor excitement awaits at the Blue Mountain Adventure Park this season.

The Park, which is located about 30 minutes from the Battlefords, has faced its share of obstacles this year, due to the ongoing pandemic.

However, even the unique hardships this year, coupled with perhaps a later snowfall than usual, has not prevented them from offering a seasonal outdoor getaway the whole family can enjoy.

Park manager, Angela Beatty, said they had to make a number of adjustments to operations this year.

Those wishing to warm up must now reserve a table-space ahead of time, on the Blue Mountain website. Chalet table reservations are free but necessary, due to the limited indoor capacity available.

Additionally, the park has also been affected by the lack of group trips this year, from within the classroom.

Field trips are generally a very common occurrence on the grounds, among a range of age and grade levels. Therefore, a complete lack of school trips this season has made the park a lot more reliant on families taking the time to come out on their own.

Beatty said all Blue Mountain employees have taken their ‘Clean it Right’ course, through tourism Sask., to ensure the park remains a safe place for families to get away for a while this winter season.

“We’re really working hard on making sure we’re following all the policies, procedures and protocols,” she said. “We’ve taken COVID precautions very seriously and have worked diligently on being able to provide a safe place for people to still be able to get out and enjoy themselves, and get some fresh air.”

Beatty said it’s important to the park to continue to provide a place for residents of the Battlefords and surrounding region to come and take their mind off the hardships of the pandemic for a little bit.

“It’s been a really hard year on a lot of people, so being able to get out and get active and do so safely is extremely important,” she said. “It’s incredibly important to us, and to the community and surrounding communities.”

In addition to their offered winter activities of cross-country skiing and snow tubing, Blue Mountain is also a member of the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association. Featured on the interactive map, while there are not snowmobile trails on-site, there is a main trail that has access to the grounds’ location.
