She-NANIGANS to celebrate the season with Christmas Market

Christmas Day sits just three weeks away, and She-NANIGANS Performing Arts Theatre wants to help get residents into the festive spirit this weekend.

That is why the venue is hosting their inaugural Christmas Market, from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and then again from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Glennda Ilett with She-NANIGANS, said especially with so many hardships this year due to the ongoing pandemic, it remains perhaps more important than ever to spread some Christmas cheer and come together in community this season.

“It’s all about having a community feel, and especially during Christmas,” she said. “This COVID thing has really kicked a lot of people in the teeth, so if we can help out a little bit, that’s what we want to do. We just want to maintain that sense of community, even though all these restrictions are in place.”

There will be seven vendors at this year’s event, selling a range of homemade crafts and edible goods. Vendors include: Le Frog Repurposed Treasures, Kiskikoman Arts, Bellflower Bakery, Forget-Me-Not Fandangles, Naomi’s Creation Corner, Budding artist True Swindler, and She-NANIGANS’ Boutique & Prairie Momma.

There will also be beverages available for purchase as patrons browse the selection, including hot chocolate and cider, among the seasonal options.

Ilett said with a positive community response this season, they hope to make the event an annual tradition, that can continue to grow in the years to come.

She said the beauty of an event like this weekend’s is that it is beneficial to all involved. Residents are able to find unique hand-crafted gifts for their Christmas list, while also supporting local artists from within the region.

“It would be great if the community could come out and support all these local artists and crafts people, and help [themselves] with their Christmas list as well,” Ilett said. “We are all about supporting local business in the community, so if people can come out and help us do that, it would be terrific.”

Those attending the Christmas Market will be required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing standards, as outlined by the current provincial guidelines in place.
