Two friends with a common cause came together to provide more than $3,200 in warm clothing, boots and hygiene products to the Scattered Site Outreach Program.

Hailey Cross and Emma Smallwood wanted to give back to the community and heard Scattered Site was in need of winter boots for its clients. After being advised of some potential grants they could apply for, both ladies submitted applications, as well as organized a sale consisting of baked goods and pizza.

Cross was successful at obtaining a $1,500 grant from TakeITGlobal, while Smallwood received a $750 grant from RisingYouth. An additional $900 was raised through the sale of food.

“We just want to give thanks to TakingITGlobal, RisingYouth and the community members, just so people know it was three different projects we did and we collaborated together just to make them run smoothly and for Scattered Site to benefit from all three of them,” Cross said.

The winter boots were delivered to Scattered Site Dec. 2 followed by the hygiene products Dec. 4.

“On top of the money we raised for the products, boots and all of that, people also donated clothing, hygiene products and boots of their own,” Smallwood said.

Scattered Site outreach worker Tina Johnson explained the organization is thankful for the donations, noting the majority of the boots are already keeping feet warm. There are still some boots left, but she added its good to have some on hand in case someone comes to the centre and needs a pair.

“I just want to say thank you to the ladies for the generosity and to everyone else in the community who has given so kindly to our program in the last year,” Johnson said. “We wouldn’t be able to provide the services we do without the kindness and generosity of our community members.”

Johnson mentioned if anyone wants to make any other donations, Scattered Site is currently in need of items such as jackets, boots, mitts, toques, sweaters, sweatpants, warm socks, hygiene products, shampoos, conditioners, combs and shaving razors.
