HDHF received $100,000 donation from Humboldt Good Neighbour Store

The Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) has received a massive, $100,000 donation from the Humboldt Good Neighbour Store.

The Good Neighbour Store in Humboldt takes donated items from the public and sells them back into the community. They then donate those proceeds to various community groups around Humboldt. President Maureen Doetzel told northeastNOW, they would normally hand out around $300,000 dollars worth of donations to a number of groups, however the COVID-19 pandemic caused some speed bumps. The store was closed in March until about June, and Doetzel said they weren’t able to donate their normal amount, but were able to donate the $100,000 to HDHF.

Doetzel said it’s a worthy cause and they do great work.

“Everybody is going to need the hospital eventually, if not for yourself, somebody in your family is going to need it,” she said. “And they certainly put the money to good use.”

HDHF Executive Director Lorrie Bunko said receiving the donation is overwhelming.

“It’s been quite the year,” Bunko said. “And to end the year with a donation like this from another charity within the community, this is a feel good story.”

As for where the money is going, Bunko said that is still to be determined. HDHF has received their key item list from the hospital, and the foundation will be sorting through that in the coming weeks.

Bunko said the equipment on the list can range from around $5,000 to $50,000

“A couple of those pieces of equipment are actually bringing a new service to our health care facility,” she said. “And anytime there’s an opportunity like that, the foundation really, seriously looks at those.”

She added that some of the equipment is related to women’s health.
