A teacher in the Horizon School Division (HSD) is doing his part to support the annual Christmas hamper program for families of students.

Jeff Burton is selling 75 exclusive re-prints of the first issue of his Humboldt based superhero comic, Auroraman.

The division is looking to serve 125 families in need this year with winter items such mitts and toques as well as grocery store gift cards.

“In all of the communities that they have schools in, there are families in need and especially this time of year,” Burton said. “They collect funds from outside donations as well as staff will donate from their paycheques if they choose.”

Burton said as a teacher he really finds the hamper program to be an important and worthwhile cause to support.

As of last night, 40 copies of the comic have been sold. They sell for $20 an issue and half of the funds will go to the Christmas hampers.

The idea for the reprint came from Burton’s friend, Alfonso Espinos in Kitchener who owns StudioComix Press and wanted to do a project together. Espinos is also an artist and did an exclusive variant cover for the comic.

There were 150 copies printed and signed by both Espinos and Burton. The order was split in half so each Burton and Espinos will sell 75.

Burton chose to support a charity with the funds because it was no extra cost to him to do the reprint.

Anyone wanting to get a copy of the comic and support the HSD Christmas hamper program can do so by visiting Auroraman on Facebook or by emailing theauroramansk@gmail.com.

Burton hinted that in the new year he has big plans for issue eight that he has been working on during the COVID-19 pandemic. It should be released this spring.
