Public Skating offers activity for all through holiday season

Dec 22, 2020 | 12:33 PM

Residents of the Battlefords have an opportunity to glide through the Christmas season this year, with skates on.

The City of North Battleford and Town of Battleford are offering public skating over the Christmas holidays, and into the New Year.

Community programmer and Don Ross Centre manager with the city, Siobhan Gormley, said there will be plenty of opportunity to hit the rink in the coming weeks.

“We have public skating pretty much every day, right through to January 3, and they’re all different times,” she said. “There’s some in the morning and some in the afternoon, so there’s a little something for everyone.”

Gormley said while the public skating is an annual occurrence, this year it remains as important as ever, as it provides families with an activity all ages can take part in together over the holiday season.

“There’s not really a ton of options for things to do right now, so it’s great that families can come into the rink and get out and skate together over the holidays. It’s a good opportunity for people to enjoy some physical activity with their friends and family.”

Masks are mandatory in all rink facilities, with a maximum of 30 skating participants at both Battleford Arena and the Access Communications Centre (Civic Centre) arenas. Social distancing standards are also required of all skaters, except if members of the same household.
