A man in La Loche is stepping into the holiday season with some early Christmas fortune, and his luck created quite the buzz in the store that sold him the special ticket.

La Loche local Jules Boucher has won $150,000 from The Big Spin – a $5 scratch-off ticket that can reward winners with an opportunity to win up to $500,000 by correctly spinning two virtual prize wheels. If a ticket reveals a “Spin Win,” they can discover what their prize is through the first animated prize wheel at a local retailer. If the winner lands on “The Big Spin,” they automatically pocket $10,000 and have a shot to spin a bigger prize wheel for a chance at half-a-million dollars.

Boucher bought his winning ticket at Center Point Grocery and Pharmacy at 2612 La Loche Avenue on Nov. 27. After discovering his ticket rewarded him with a “Spin Win,” he returned to the store the next day to spin the wheel. Boucher’s lucky streak would continue, and he landed on “The Big Spin.”

Recalling the exhilarating moment, Boucher said he was surprised to see the wheel give him a shot at a bigger prize.

“I thought it was going to stop at $10,000, but then it hit ‘Big Spin,’ and I just went “yeah!’,” Boucher said in a media release.

Chai Daongam, Owner of Center Point Grocery and Pharmacy, claimed since that fortunate day, The Big Spin tickets have become a hot commodity in the community.

“It has certainly increased people’s awareness,” Daongam told meadowlakeNOW. “It has become the hottest ticket in town. This has put the ticket on a lot of people’s radar. We keep selling out.”

Daongam mentioned when the initial spin happened in his store, nearly everyone in the area was happy and excited for Boucher on his win. He added wins like this don’t happen often in the community.

“We all rushed over and wanted to jump up and down with the guy. It was so exciting, and he was shaking. He was on the phone with his loved ones, and you could hear them screaming through his cellphone. Even the bystanders were excited.”

Boucher stated he hasn’t decided what he is going to do with his winnings, but a portion of the cash will be used to clear any debt.
