Church service with Christmas carols offered on local radio

Dec 26, 2020 | 2:51 PM

A special Sunday church service with carols will be aired on the local radio Dec.27, as many families are not able to visit their places of worship during the COVID-19 restrictions.

The program will be broadcast at 8 a.m. on 1050 CJNB and 102.3 FM CJNS. The one-hour service featuring Christmas Carols and Reflections is a partnership with St. George’s and St. Paul’s Anglican Church.

Rev. Trevor Malyon said the radio service fills a need in the community for people of many denominations who miss being able to attend service at their own church. He hopes the program helps lift people’s spirits during a difficult year.

“Carols – their words and melody – unite us and remind us our focus is rejoicing at the birth of Christ…,” he said. “The coronavirus is a dark force which threatens humanity. Carols encourage many outside the church that there is hope for the world.”

The program will also be available on the Battle River Parish Anglican Church Battlefords YouTube station.

St. Paul’s Anglican Church People’s Warden and chair person of Battle River Parish Council Edward Harding said the church is pleased to partner with the radio station on the effort.

He added having the service available on the air is especially important for people who are isolated and shut ins since not everyone has access to the internet.
