Hope and Future: Melfort MLA says ‘good days are coming’

The COVID-19 pandemic makes 2020 a year many may prefer to forget. While we’re not out of the woods yet, northeastNOW has chosen to produce our usual series of end-of-year stories with a focus on hope and the future.

Melfort MLA Todd Goudy says one of his favourite things about 2020 was being able to talk to the constituents of the region, even if it was from further back, and with masks on.

Goudy was re-elected as MLA in October in the provincial election, and begins his first full term as a politician. Goudy has some new titles in office and will serve as the legislative secretary to the minister of parks, culture and sport. He will also be the Francophone affairs liaison.

As for the COVID-19 pandemic, Goudy said he is happy with the way the government, and the residents of Saskatchewan have handled things and that the world is looking up in 2021.

“I think we’re going to come out of it in a fairly good position,” Goudy said. “Compared to a lot of other provinces and districts.”

Goudy highlighted the province’s focus on stimulating the economy in 2020 with funding such as MEEP. He said there’s going to be a lot of “building happening” and lots that has already happened.

Moving forward, Goudy said he hopes when life gets back to some sort of normal, people don’t take for granted the things that were much more difficult to do during the pandemic.

“We are all realizing that the most important part of life is friends and family,” he said. “And I think that is going to be a real focus for all of us in 2021.”

Goudy said he hopes people can get out and enjoy what Saskatchewan, Canada, and the world has to offer.

“Hope is that good days are coming, we all know that,” Goudy said.
