Carrot River Valley MLA Fred Bradshaw has been appointed as the Minister of Highways and Minister responsible for the Water Security Agency.

Premier Scott Moe made the appointment on Jan. 4 after accepting the resignation from cabinet of Joe Hargrave who will remain the MLA for Prince Albert Carlton.

Bradshaw told northeastNOW it was an honour to have Moe ask him to fill the position.

“I have never been in cabinet, I have had many different positions but I have never been in cabinet so it is going to be very different and quite a bit of a workload too,” Bradshaw said.

He has represented the Saskatchewan Party in the Carrot River Valley Riding for 13 years but said he was still quite surprised to have this opportunity arise.

“I wasn’t expecting it but I am happy that Moe is putting his faith in me to do the job,” Bradshaw said.

He highlighted the Highway 55 project from Carrot River to Red Earth Cree Nation that will be underway this year and its importance for the northeast.

“There is a lot of trade that comes out of The Pas, Man. coming this way so that is going to help out all of northeastern Saskatchewan,” Bradshaw said.

In Saskatchewan, there are a ton of roads in need of repair, according to Bradshaw.

“We have spent record amounts on highways since we formed government, trying to get the highways in shape and maintaining them as well,” Bradshaw said. “It is a big job and ongoing job in the province and I am pleased that I will be part of it.”

Bradshaw will be sworn into cabinet on Wednesday which is the first step in taking on the role as Minister.

“It is going to be about trying to get everything in your head on how everything is working within the ministry,” Bradshaw said.
