New Year, Renewed Permits

New year means it’s time to renew permits

2021 is just a week old, but it’s a good time to make sure all your licenses and permits are up to date.

City of Melfort Director of development, planning and community relations, Brent Lutz said pet licenses as well as fire permits need to be renewed each year.

“It’s important to get a license for your pet, should it ever go missing,” he said. “It enables us to find it’s way back home.”

Lutz added that if your dog or cat is at large, it also helps avoid fines and other fees. Pets who are spayed or neutered only cost $11 to license, and those who aren’t are just $31.

Meanwhile, with the current COVID-19 pandemic, as well as recent mild temperatures, fire pits might be more in use than a normal January.

“So, you may be still using your fire pit at this time of year,” Lutz said. “We want to remind you that your annual fire pit license needs to be renewed each year.”

Renewals for fire pit licences are only $10 each at Melfort City Hall.

Fire Chief Shaun Stewart told northeastNOW that it’s important to have a fire pit permit because it shows that it has been inspected and is safe for use. Anyone with questions related to fire pits can consult the Fire and Protective Services Bylaw at melfort.ca.

There are several rules that need to be adhered to for fire pits and they are all on the permit signed by the owner of the fire pit.
