Battlefords and area receive over $140,000 in charitable gaming grants

Over $140,000 in charitable gaming grants have been provided to North Battleford and area organizations.

The grants are just part of a larger $1.3 million dollar package, distributed by the Sask. Liquor and Gaming Authority the last six months, to a number of various groups across the province that conduct charitable gaming fundraisers.

The following is a breakdown of the nearly $130,000 distributed to organizations directly associated within the community:

  • Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation Inc. (BUH) $104,170
  • The Battlefords’ North Stars Hockey Club Inc. $7,600
  • Table Mountain Ski & Board Inc. $4,597
  • Associated Canadian Travellers $2,500
  • North Battleford Elks Lodge #369 $2,257
  • Kiwanis Club of the Battlefords Inc. $1,865
  • North Battleford Lions Club $1,554
  • Humane Society of the Battlefords, Inc. $1,553
  • Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts Inc. $135
  • WDM Volunteers Association Inc. $932
  • Battlefords Midget AAA Stars $896
  • North Battleford Villa Pascal Ladies Auxiliary $684
  • North Battleford IONIC Temple Co. $621
  • The Missionary Society of St. Paul $52
  • 43rd Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets Civilian Committee Corporation $21

In addition, nearly $12,000 was also split between a number of communities surrounding the Battlefords, including Maidstone with over $3,000 and Hafford who received over $1,000.

Jim Reiter is the minister responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority. He said via statement the province is happy to offer support for so many valuable organizations.

“Our government is pleased to support the volunteers of our province who continue to make a difference in their communities,” he said. “The charitable gaming grant program provides extra dollars that help these groups deliver their services in a variety of important sectors including public service, emergency services, health care and recreation.”

Other notable communities receiving grants in the region include Kindersley with over $11,500; and Meadow Lake with over $2,000.
