Mandatory remote learning to continue in Pinehouse Lake until Feb. 1

Jan 14, 2021 | 5:02 PM

Students in Pinehouse Lake won’t be returning to class until at least Feb. 1.

The announcement was made in a letter released this week by the Northern Lights School Division, which states Minahik Waskahigan High School and Minahik Waskahigan Elementary School will remain at level four. That means mandatory remote learning will continue for the remainder of the month.

“We wanted to make you aware that we are seeing increased COVID-19 activity in Pinehouse Lake,” the letter notes. “We are asking everyone to be extra vigilant. Protect yourself and your family at all times during the pandemic by following all public health recommendations and ensuring you do your part to stop the spread.”

As of Jan. 14, there were 36 active cases of COVID-19 in Pinehouse Lake with two new cases announced today. There have been 155 recoveries for a total of 191 cases. An outbreak has already been declared in Pinehouse Lake and 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew is in effect.

The NLSD letter also asks for anyone with COVID-19 symptoms to get tested as the health, safety and well-being of school division communities remains a top priority.

“We are following sound protocols aligned with expert health guidance to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect students’ health,” the letter states.

Other NLSD students are expected to resume in-person classroom learning Jan. 18.
