SJHL/North Stars remain hopeful for return this season

Jan 15, 2021 | 5:07 PM

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) has announced they remain committed to their effort to complete the 2020-21 hockey season.

The announcement comes just days after the provincial government’s Business Response Team (BRT) said there would be no consideration of a return to play for at least four weeks.

However, rather than taking the provincial ruling as the final nail in the coffin to end hopes of a return, the league’s statement said they are ‘grateful [the] season is not shut down completely;’ adding that a committee has been formed to ‘determine options’ for a potential return to play.

Head coach of the North Stars Brayden Klimosko, said while the health of all remains the most important thing, the team is still hungry for a return to the ice as soon as possible to finish the season.

“We’re not giving up hope and we’re trying to do what’s best for our players,” Klimosko said. “Obviously health remains the top priority, so we’re just trying to find a way to get our players back playing. We think they deserve some kind of season, so we’re going to try to make that possible for them.”

The North Stars played just three games this season prior to Christmas, with their last coming on Nov. 14, ahead of the season being put on hold.
