‘A complete community effort’: Tisdale T-Shirts raise thousands for Falkon Theatre

Jan 17, 2021 | 12:00 PM

The Falkon Theatre in Tisdale has stood the test of time since 1929, although the coronavirus pandemic has proven to be a challenging stretch.

Kristie Homstol, co-owner of Little Town Apparel, wanted to assist in keeping the Falkon Theatre afloat since it was acquired by a private group of investors a few years prior, but she didn’t have the funds at the time.

Fast forward to 2020, Homstol and her family finally had the opportunity to help the theatre amidst a global pandemic, giving $2,091.

“We created a T-shirt from the old logo… everyone that purchased it and all the profits went into the pot and we gave it all back to the Falkon Theatre right before Christmas,” Homstol said. “It definitely was not just us. It’s been a complete community effort. We have no idea how lucky we are. We have great business people in Tisdale that see the potential and need for these things and want their children to grow up in a great community and keep all this stuff alive.”

Homstol said she and her family aim to help in the community wherever possible, but the Falkon Theatre hits close to home. She recalled many childhood memories in the theatre and mentioned how her parents had fun in the drive-in in the 70s and 80s.

“It’s always been a great place to go, I want to keep it alive,” she said. “Our little communities don’t have a lot of things to do and this is one of those things our youth can do. I will do anything we can do to support it as long as we can keep it open.”

The Falkon Theatre has found creative avenues to bring in revenue – $250 movie sponsorships and popcorn and drink take out – on top of being able to allow 30 spectators in for a film. Still, Homstol said the theatre, along with the entertainment and food industry in general, is still hit especially hard without its usual foot traffic.

“We’re lucky the community really got behind ‘shop small and shop local’ and we had some really great support,” she said. “I know the community wants to help out in any way they can.”
