Nominations open for Humboldt’s Mark of Excellence Awards

Jan 18, 2021 | 5:00 PM

Nominations are now open for the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce’s Mark of Excellence Awards.

The 2021 version of the event will be done virtually, just as it was in 2020, but will be relatively the same as years past when it comes to awards. Executive Director Brent Fitzpatrick said there’s lots of planning that goes into setting up the Mark of Excellence Awards, and that with the current restrictions due to COVID-19, the committee decided it was best to make the event virtual for 2021.

While awards from years past will remain in 2021, there will be a new award this year. It will be called the Adaptive Business Award to recognize businesses that adjusted during the pandemic.

“There’s a lot of businesses out there that when they started the year, they had a pretty good idea of what they were going to do,” Fitzpatrick told northeastNOW. “By the end of the year, they weren’t doing that, they were doing something completely different.”

Fitzpatrick said businesses have been on the run for the entire year and it’s important to honour them. He added that it’s possible for the award to remain in a different capacity, but that’s still to be decided.

Even though there won’t be the normal pageantry that goes with the Mark of Excellence Awards in Humboldt, Fitzpatrick said it’s more important now to honour and recognize those businesses.

“No matter what category they’re in, I really believe they need to be recognized for the work that they’ve done,” he said.

Nominations will remain open until Sunday, Jan. 31 and nomination forms are available at humboldtchamber.ca or you can call the chamber office at 1-306-682-4990 for more information.
