Lloyd Ex cancels Showcase

Showcase 2021 at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association (Lloyd Ex) is postponed for the second straight year.

The association’s board of directors and staff announced the decision Wednesday, after monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 situation closely. Board Member Greg Buchanan said in a media release that after an extensive review, the group decided this was the best move for the organization, its patrons, volunteers and staff.

“It has been determined that it is not possible to hold the planned event and also provide a safe environment,” Buchanan said. “Therefore, we must cancel Showcase for 2021.”

Jackie Tomayer, assistant general manager for Lloyd Ex said health and finances both played a big role in the decision, as it has for a number of other cancelled events over the past 10 months.

“Safety is number one,” Tomayer said. “And in this current economic time, we can’t afford to put on events that might lose money.”

The event will be postponed until next year. Tomayer said the reason it’s an annual event is their relationship with Sellers RV.

“If we get past March, there’s no reason to have an indoor RV sale,” she said. “And we value that partnership.”

This is the third major event the association has cancelled in 2021, following the 2021 Agri-Visions Conference and trade show February 10 to 11 and the Pride of the Prairies Bull Sale on March 8. Now, Lloyd Ex will have a number of other future events to plan out, including the 4-H expo and the Colonial Days Fair.

“The big push will be the fair,” Tomayer said. “How we can safely hold a fair with our new chuckwagon event.”

In the release, Lloyd Ex also thanked their sponsors for support in past events.
