A 64-year-old woman from Lone Rock, Saskatchewan has died, following a three-vehicle collision south of Lloydminster.

Last night, Maidstone RCMP responded to a call of the collision around 7 p.m. which occurred on Highway 17, near Lone Rock.

According to the initial investigation, two vans travelling southbound collided, before the first van and an incoming semi-tractor-trailer unit traveling northbound also collided. While no injuries were reported to the drivers of the semi and the second van, the first van’s driver was transported to hospital, where she died from her injuries.

RCMP Sgt. Joylne Harrison stressed how important it is for motorists to pay attention at all times while travelling. This is the second fatality from a collision on Highway 17 South in the past two weeks.

“We are dealing with some winter conditions [on roadways],” Harrison said. “Just be safe while you’re driving.”

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The roadway is now open, after crews were on scene until at least 2 a.m. The RCMP Reconstruction Unit from Prince Albert will continue to investigate the collision with Maidstone RCMP.
