Second-degree murder charges laid in relation to Flying Dust homicide investigation

Meadow Lake RCMP has charged two people with second-degree murder in the death of Kenneth Merasty from Flying Dust First Nation.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Feb. 9, Meadow Lake RCMP and local EMS responded to a residence on Deer Street on the Flying Dust First Nation after receiving a report of an alleged stabbing.

A 43-year-old was located at the residence suffering from serious injuries, and was transported to nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Thirty-one-year-old Conrad Joseph Jay Merasty of Flying Dust First Nation, and 31-year-old Lucy Annelle Whitecap of Nipawin, were each charged with second-degree murder. Whitecap was also charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and breach of an undertaking in relation to the death of Kenneth Merasty.

Conrad Merasty and Whitecap will both appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 8, 2021.
