The Meadow Lake & District Chamber of Commerce and the Meadow Lake Kinette Club have come together to provide the community with some free family entertainment over the next three weeks.

The two organizations have created a snow art competition with the chance for participants to win prizes and share their creations with other residents in the community. Entrants will have the opportunity to create any snow art design of their choice, with each design/entry earning a ballot into a draw to win awards including a Nintendo Switch supplied by event sponsors Snipe & Celly and Extra Foods.

Meadow Lake Kinette Club President Tammy Much stated the Chamber of Commerce was looking to create a family activity for the community before reaching out to the Kinettes. Once discussions opened up, they both agreed to the snow art competition because of its inclusivity.

“Families may be having a hard time financially, but it doesn’t cost anything to go outside and build a snowman or make a fort,” Much said. “Everybody can compete and we do have it running for I think it’s a three and a half week competition, so if you can’t go out because it’s cold, you can go out another day. We’re just really encouraging everyone to have fun together.”

The snow art competition is slated to run between Feb. 15 and March 8. All participants will have the ability to create any designs as they see fit, and are not limited to only one design. Once the design has been completed, entrants will be expected to capture a photo of their work and send it to the Kinette Club or the Chamber through their Facebook pages, emails or text message. Considerations for the Nintendo Switch grand prize will be awarded to those who present creative and unique designs.

The designs will be shared on social media for the community to see. Much stated she hopes the community will interact with the designs and share positive comments to provide others with some gratification for their effort.

“We really want people to like and comment on the posts. Encourage the children and celebrate the families that do something like this. If they post their snow art, congratulate them on a beautiful job because everyone wants positive feedback.”

The winners of the draw will be announced via Facebook Live on the day following the March 8 submission deadline. Follow the Kinette Club and Chamber of Commerce on Facebook to stay updated with the competition and other events.
