Melfort Kin toilet drop fundraiser continues this weekend

Feb 19, 2021 | 12:00 PM

In just one week, residents of Saskatchewan will be asked to ‘ring those phones’ for Telemiracle 45.

The telethon will look different this year as will many community fundraisers. The Melfort Kinsmen and Kinettes are sticking to a tried-and-true fundraiser that is also COVID-19-friendly.

Kinette member Jackie McConaghy told northeastNOW the business community stepped up to sponsor sending a colourful toilet to other businesses around Melfort this week.

“When the toilet is delivered to the gifted business, they get a chance to send it to another for a small donation,” McConaghy said. “As of Friday morning, 20 businesses had signed up to participate.”

The toilet began making its rounds on Thursday afternoon and will continue popping up at local businesses on Friday.

Oh crap….I forgot to buy insurance. Oh well we will just pay to have it moved. Hoping you KIN Folk have to move that toilet many times today. Good Luck with the fundraiser KIN. Don.

“We are so pleased to see the smiles when the toilet delivery is made to the businesses,” McConaghy said. “Everyone is having a good time and are happy to make a donation to send it to another business.”

The toilet got an early start today to visit Dave and Angie during the Beach morning show. Stay tuned to see where they have decided to send it along to.

On Saturday and Sunday, the toilet will be dropped at residential areas as well.

“This weekend only, you can send the toilet to your friend’s house,” McConaghy said. “For $40 you can send it to a friend, for $50 you can buy toilet insurance to make sure that you don’t get the toilet, but if you don’t buy insurance, it’s $20 to remove it from your driveway.”

Requests can be sent to melfortkinettesservice@gmail.com to make a donation or to arrange for a toilet drop or insurance. Tax receipts are provided for over $20, and donations of $145 are eligible for a Telemiracle teddy.

“We needed a safe way that we could connect with the community while raising funds,” McConaghy said. “This way we can have a no contact event where everyone can safely distance and send e-transfers for payment.”

Telemiracle 45 begins on Feb 27 and wraps up on Feb. 28.
