Cause of bent wings on power lines near Beatty unknown

Feb 27, 2021 | 12:00 PM

SaskPower crews are currently working to fix some damaged transmission lines in the Beatty area.

Spokesperson Scott McGregor told northeastNOW they were made aware on Wednesday, Feb. 24 of some damage to some transmission lines. Upon arrival, it was noted that some of the metal wings on the towers were bent and damaged.

Fortunately, there were no reports of any effect to customers in the area.

“This line is a redundant backup line,” McGregor said. “So there were no active customers on this line.”

Crews are currently working to fix the damage, but a concrete timeline was not given. McGregor said crews are working to make sure no customers are affected and it gets done the best way.

As for what caused the damage to the towers, McGregor said that’s still up in the air.

“Our people are investigating what happened,” he said. “There’s a few ideas kicking around, but nothing that’s been firmly identified yet.”
