Melfort Fire holding information night for prospective new recruits

Mar 2, 2021 | 3:00 PM

The Melfort Fire Department is looking for new members to join their team.

They’re looking for between four and six new recruits in the Melfort area and the department is holding an information night on March 9 for those interested. It will include a tour of the department and information on what it takes to be part of the Melfort fire crew.

Captain Graham Calow said the information night is just the first step in joining the department.

“This spring, we’ll be jumping right into a training program for those that are interested in it,” he said. “And get them ready to come out and help us at some upcoming calls.”

The department is open to anyone over the age of 18 who lives in the immediate Melfort area. Calow said those who join need to be able to get to the hall quick in the event of a call.

Calow said people from all walks of life are welcome. He said it’s a very rewarding experience.

“We’ve got farmers, we’ve got retail workers, we’ve got business owners, manual laborers, and so on,” Calow told northeastNOW. “But when our pager rings, we’ve got a pretty strong team of community-minded people that just like to help others when they often need it the most.”

He added that it’s a very team oriented process and they build strong relationships with each other.

Anyone interested in attending the information night is asked to book a spot ahead of time as the department will be following strict COVID-19 guidelines. There will be two times available for the information night, one at 7 p.m. and another at 8:15 p.m. You can contact the department on Facebook, or reach out to someone on the department.
