Village of White Fox raising funds for facility operating costs

The White Fox Community Enhancement Committee has their work cut out for them as they aim to replace funds that would typically be brought in through facilities in the village.

An online 50/50 is running and has a current jackpot of over $17,200 as of March 1.

President of the committee Kristie Long told northeastNOW all of the funds brought in will go toward the operation of the community hall, skating and curling rink.

“When we look at last year where there is usually a wedding every weekend in the summer at the hall, it hits these facilities hard with not being able to be open,” Long said.

The public health guidelines in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic make it nearly impossible to have any sort of events that would bring in money to maintain the hubs of small communities.

The goal for the 50/50 is simply to bring in as much money as possible.

“We did set it at being able to have a potential pot of over $34,000 so if we could sell out that would be wonderful,” Long said.

With no revenue coming in, this has become a crucial fundraiser for the community of around 350 people.

“No weddings at the hall, the skating rink has taken a hit with not being able to have their year-end tourney for two years now,” Long said. “No bonspiels at the curling rink and there are still bills associated with running the places.”

The ice was put in at the skating rink this year, so there is that cost to cover as well.

Along with the cost of power and energy in the facilities, a new dance floor in the community hall is on the to-do-list.

Lake Country Co-op with imagine paint Communities in Full Colour program is donating the floor materials for the flooring.

Since the inception of the group six years ago, a number of successful events have been held in the community.

“We started when planning the 85th birthday for the village so we have done the 85th and 90th village birthdays,” Long said. “We also do annual barbecues, we did an online auction this past November, we look after the craft show and just look after the community as much as we can.”

Tickets for the 50/50 draw are one for $10 or three for $20 and will be available until March 31. Tickets can be purchased online or at the White Fox Village Office, Diamond North Credit Union, and J n J’s General Store.
