The eight dimensions of wellness were the focus of the International Women’s Day celebration hosted by North East Outreach and Support Services.

Covering social wellness in the evening was public speaker and author Amanda Perrot.

Her presentation encouraged women to re-connect with those who may have become distant over the past year.

“If we can have vulnerable conversations with those people that are closest to us, it provides the stability that allows us to leap off into our work and into what we need to do,” Perrot said.

The restrictions that have been in place for a year now have had a definite impact on some relationships. Perrot posed a challenge for participants to look within and get back to building on those friend or family relationships that have been weakened by being socially distant.

“When relationships are off, it can effect your whole life,” Perrot said. “It effects how you show up at work, how you show up at work and how you show up for your kids.”

Organizers of the full day of virtual presentations wanted to give women the opportunity to focus on self-care so they are better equipped to care for others around them.

Author Shari Chelack finished off the day with an occupational wellness presentation. She talked about how to balance work and home life in order to find wholeness which is also covered in her book, Flawed and Fabulous.

“I started to water my own grass and my grass got greener,” Chelack said. “When I started focusing on me and making myself better, my occupational wellness became a lot better.”

Finding balance and prioritizing what was important was her formula for success. Believing in yourself was another piece of advice from Chelack.

“There are people out there less qualified than you that are doing things that you want to do,” Chelack said. “It is simply because they decided to believe in themselves.”

Spiritual, nutritional, financial, emotional, environmental, and physical wellness were also covered throughout the day.

The presentations took place in a private Facebook group that consisted of nearly 300 members. The presentations were recorded live and are still available in the group for those who may have missed them.
