Humboldt’s Jeff Burton is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Adventures of Auroraman by launching a new Kickstarter campaign and Issue 8 of his comic series.

Auroraman is a superhero and a teacher from Humboldt and the campaign runs until April 2.

“This whole adventure has been quite phenomenal,” Burton said. “When I first started, I remember that I didn’t know if people were going to want to support a comic book about some guy in Saskatchewan who just happens to be a superhero.”

Issue 8 is a 48-page comic including work from artists who were paid through funding from the Sask. Arts grant program.

The main story in the issue is about Auroraman and his students going on a field trip to learn about the prehistoric history in Drumheller.

“This is an issue that we have been working on for a couple years,” Burton said. “That main story is kind of fun.”

Burton is also launching his own series of Auroraman trading cards featuring heroes and villains from the series’ universe.

“The fifth anniversary was the perfect time to release a set of cards,” Burton added.

The series of 10 cards finished last year and Issue 8 are some the rewards for supporting the new Kickstarter project.

As of March 4, the campaign has raised over $3,500.

“That’s a big deal to me,” Burton said. “I’m very grateful. I look forward to many more adventures with Auroraman for the next five years.”

The fundraising goal is $6,500, and the rewards have been produced.
