Committee raising funds for new playground and pickleball court in Humboldt

A group of mothers has started a committee to make improvements to Water Ridge Park in Humboldt.

The Water Ridge Park committee is raising money to add a playground and a pickleball court to the park.

“There’s a lot of green space there,” Water Ridge Park committee president Breanna Landry said. “We think it would be a perfect spot for a play structure. There’s already a water park there and walking trails. It’s used a lot by the community and surrounding communities.”

The committee was established this past August and has raised approximately $40,000.

“It’s just gotten out to the community that it’s happening,” Landry said. “Getting everything organized is a little tough with COVID-19. We’ve had some great support.”

The project is expected to cost around $150,000 and the committee is holding an auction fundraiser on Facebook from Friday until March 18.

“I’m excited to see what happens with it,” Landry added.

The City of Humboldt has also committed to help with the project.

“We are just waiting on a confirmation of what they’re going to be contributing,” Landry said.

The committee expects the pickleball court to be open this summer and to have the playground installed in the summer of 2022.

The plan is to include some lighting and a fence around the pickleball court.

“We’re just excited to make this project a reality in the next couple years,” Landry said.
