Carrot River’s mayor has resigned from his position.

In a media release, the town announced Dennis Lentendre is stepping down due to health concerns.

Lentendre was elected mayor in November 2020, and was previously a councillor in 2016.

“I genuinely enjoyed my time as mayor and formerly a councillor for the Town of Carrot River,” said Lentedre in the release. “I am grateful I was able to represent the people of my community for numerous years, and I am proud of the progress we made and the progress yet to come.”

In the meantime, deputy mayor Dylan Borody will head city council. Borody told northeastNOW Letendre was a great mayor in his short time in that role.

“He’s done a really excellent job,” Borody said. “And he went above and beyond what he needed to do, and I appreciate that.”

He said Lentendre fit the role and was able to be a leader and understanding at the same time.

“He really was able to get all of council involved, get everyone’s opinions, lay out what needs to be layed out,” he said. “And bring us all together.”

It’s expected council will appoint an interim mayor at the March 23 meeting. A by-election date is also expected to be set at that meeting. A by-election must be held within six months of the resignation.
