BUH Foundation helps ‘share the warmth’ in support of Battlefords Interval House

The Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation once again partnered with SaskEnergy’s “Share the Warmth” initiative this year, in support of Battlefords Interval House.

In years past, Share the Warmth has traditionally been associated with the Foundation’s Festival of Trees fundraiser over the holiday season, where they would collect blankets and warm coats donated by residents in the community. However, this year the process of finding items to donate had to be adjusted due to the pandemic.

Rather than second-hand clothing and blankets, the Foundation donated a number of newly-made quilts given to them by the Gospel Tract and Bible Society.

Executive Director with the BUH Foundation, Claudette McGuire said they were happy to be able to continue to take part in supporting the Interval House through the initiative, and grateful to have been given the quilts to provide to those in need.

“Like with everyone else and every other event during these COVID times, we had to come up with something unique which is a bit challenging, so when these items came in, I thought this is perfect,” McGuire said. “It worked out really well and the quilts are beautifully done and they’re just absolutely lovely.”

Between 25 and 30 bundles, featuring quilts wrapped with other small toys and baby care items were donated this year.

Executive director with Battlefords Interval House, Debbie Kovalsky said they are grateful for the support of the BUH Foundation and Share the Warmth campaign for providing the quilts and valuable supplies to their facility.

“It’s very nice that they think of us, and the items that they gave are very helpful because our ladies often come in here without much,” Kovalsky said. “This gives them baby support items for their baby, and it’s comforting to have a beautiful quilt to go with it that they can take with them, so we really appreciate it.”
