Prince Albert National Park has been actively working on understanding, protecting and restoring the park’s ecosystems for over 90 years. Part of this work includes assessing all fish stocks that are subject to sport fishing.

Lake trout in Prince Albert National Park is a popular angling species, especially in Kingsmere Lake due to its accessibility and clear, pristine waters.

Both their habitat requirements and vulnerable life history characteristics make lake trout an important species for studying the effects of climate and landscape changes. According to present information, scientific data indicates a sharp decline in the lake trout population in Kingsmere Lake.

To ensure healthy aquatic environments and high quality fishing experiences, Parks Canada is investigating multiple factors that could be contributing to this decline.
