Editor’s note: This story was updated at 1:17p.m. Tuesday afternoon to reflect facts provided by the Crown Prosecutor.

A stabbing inside Bailey’s Lounge last November, has led to an 18 month jail sentence.

Vernon Buffalo, 37, was in provincial court Monday and pled guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily harm.

The incident on Nov. 2 happened at approximately 8p.m. Police were dispatched to the business for a report of a man threatening another man with a knife.

According to the statement of facts read in court, the victim was stabbed inside the bar, and was stabbed once in the arm and once in the lower back.

With respect to the motive for the attack, Buffalo saw the victim sitting at a table. A conversation took place between the two men, and the victim was asked “who he was down with.”

Buffalo proceeded to walk towards the VLTs, but returned to attack the victim from behind. A chase around the bar ensued, and Buffalo chased the victim around a pool table until the bar staff helped the victim by allowing him behind the bar into the freezer.

The 19-year-old victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

With credit for time spent in remand custody, Buffalo has roughly one year and 15 days left to serve. Upon his release, he’ll be on probation for 18 months and must abide by a 10-year firearms prohibition.
