Battlefords MLA comments on provincial budget

Apr 7, 2021 | 5:31 PM

Battlefords MLA Jeremy Cockrill discussed the province’s 2021-2022 budget in session at the Legislature in Regina today.

“This is a budget that is focused on protecting, building and growing Saskatchewan,” he said. “In the face of COVID-19, which has been one of the most significant challenges that our society has faced in recent decades, our government has been there to protect Saskatchewan.”

Cockrill spoke about funding dedicated to “protecting lives and livelihoods” to help ensure the healthcare system will continue to be ready to protect Saskatchewan residents.

Some of the investments in the budget include hiring 100 new continuing care aides in Saskatchewan in the next year.

Cockrill said the province has reduced ambulance fees by over half for seniors.

As well, he said the province is making significant capital investments in long term care facilities to support seniors into the future.

The MLA also discussed another Police and Crisis Team (PACT) being established in the province.

Mental health experts and the RCMP work together as a mobile team to deal with calls for people in crisis in this initiative.

“I know from speaking with the RCMP in my home constituency of the Battlefords having a PACT team makes local policing more efficient and helps to better address mental health challenges as police respond to calls,” Cockrill said.
