P.A. city council meetings now live-streamed

Apr 12, 2021 | 1:50 PM

Prince Albert city council’s new audiovisual system goes live Monday.

The equipment, which the city budgeted $140,000 for, was installed last month. It allows for telephone and video conferencing, live online streaming, and a control queuing system for speaking turns and voting. The final cost of the new system has not been determined yet.

“There has been a need for a new system for a number of years, but the pandemic accelerated discussions,” City Clerk Sherry Person said in a media release. “Participants can now join us from any distance, including presenters and members of Council if needed, and for the first time the public can now watch live online.”

All City Council and Executive Committee meeting live streams will be hosted on the City of PA Council and Committee Meetings YouTube Channel. Recorded meetings will also be posted.

“We’ve invested in technology that will serve us well now and into the future,” Mayor Greg Dionne said.

Monday’s council meeting starts at 5 p.m.

Shaw Cable will continue to broadcast Council meetings live on Channel 10.

Editor’s note: This story has been amended to make clear that the final cost of the audiovisual system has not yet been determined.
