The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) office will remain closed until April 19.

That’s according to a letter to the public dated April 15 from executive director Gladys Christiansen, which states on April 12 administration was informed there was a COVID-positive individual who entered the band office last week. The person had been at the band office attending a meeting.

“Those in attendance were required to immediately get tested and self-isolate,” the letter notes. “Today, one of those employees received a confirmed COVID-19 test.”

The letter adds for the safety of employees and, in order to have the band office deep cleaning and sanitized, management decided to close the office until next week. Employees are asked to work at home and self-monitor themselves for symptoms.

“If your experiencing symptoms, please call public health,” the letter states. “For those employees that have been named as close contacts, follow the public health order, get tested and self-isolate.”

Meanwhile, the LLRIB community of Stanley Mission remains locked down after a COVID-19 outbreak. The lockdown will be in effect until at least tomorrow and then it will be reassessed on whether or not it will need to be extended.

Community members are not allowed to leave unless it is for urgent medical reasons or essential healthcare services. Non-community members are not permitted to enter Stanley Mission and a 10 p.m. curfew is in place.

“This lockdown is to limit transmission and to contain the spread of COVID-19,” a public notice states. “If the lockdown is not followed and the virus is not contained soon, a total lockdown will be implemented.”

As of April 15, there are 16 active COVID-19 cases in LLRIB communities. There are 14 in Stanley Mission, one in Grandmother’s Bay and one in La Ronge. The band has had a total of 501 cases and two deaths since the pandemic began.
