Raiders look to even season series against hot Wheat Kings

Apr 24, 2021 | 12:00 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders will get one last look at P.A.’s Braden Schneider taking on his hometown Raiders.

The game will mean something to the Brandon Wheat Kings, who are looking to run away with the WHL East Division banner. They are the divisional leaders with three games remaining, and are on a five-game winning streak.

The Raiders got the better of the Wheaties in their first meeting on March 16 with a 5-3 victory, but fell 7-1 in the rematch on March 30. The Wheat Kings then moved up 2-1 in the season series with a close 3-2 win on April 5, a game where Raider head coach Marc Habscheid loved his team’s effort and felt they deserved to win.

Michael Horon has loved playing the Wheat Kings this year, as five of his 10 points have come against them. Horon had a goal and two helpers in the Raiders’ win on March 16, the lone time in his career he’s hit the three-point mark in one game.

Ben McCartney has been a point machine against the Raiders with a pair of goals and five points in the three-game series so far. Ridly Greig has two goals and four points in just two matchups against the Raiders—including a shorthanded game winner in the third period of the 3-2 Wheat Kings win on April 5.

Ethan Kruger has stopped almost everything in goal for the Wheat Kings against the Raiders, as he has a pair of wins, a 0.952 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average in a pair of appearances against Prince Albert.

The game is at 6 p.m., moved from its original 8 p.m. slot. Check out voice of the Raiders Trevor Redden’s call of the game on CKBI.
