AAA Sharks ink six for 2021-22 season

The Battlefords U18 AAA Sharks have announced six player signings over the past week, including three from within an hour and a half of the community, and another three from throughout the surrounding region.

Head coach of the Sharks, Ricci Girolami said the organization is already looking forward to getting back on the ice this fall with a lot of reason for optimism for what the team could accomplish this season.

“We’re excited to have these six younger players coming up, and it’s going to be interesting to see their skills mesh with the group, and what they can each bring to the team,” Girolami said.

“We’re definitely going to be a younger team, and it looks like we have a lot of speed and grit, so it should be a nice mix.”

Greir Slabaida

A North Battleford hometown product, forward Greir Slabaida skates with great speed and agility that should bode well for the Sharks’ offensive attack. in 24 games with the U15 AA North West Sharks during the 2019-20 season, Slabaida tallied seven goals and 10 points.

Mia Weber

A solid two-way blueliner, Mia Weber grew up just 40 minutes from the Battlefords community in Edam. Weber joins the local AAA ranks after spending the last two seasons with the U15 AA Sharks, where she picked up three assists in 22 games during the 2019-20 season.

Cassidy Peters

Peters should serve as a sparkplug for the Sharks next season, as the forward would often help set the tone for her team through her time in U15 AA with the Warman Wildcats. During the 2019-20 season, Peters also chipped in for four goals and 11 points in 24 games with the Wildcats.

Alexie Palchinski

Originally from just a couple hours east of the Battlefords, the Cudworth, SK., product Alexie Palchinski plays a gritty two-way game in addition to her offensive contributions. Palchinski scored two goals and seven points in 24 games for the Warman U15 AA Wildcats during the 2019-20 season.

Brooklyn Siemens

Swift Current’s Brooklyn Siemens should help provide some offensive spark for the Sharks this fall. In five games with the U15 AA Swift Current Wildcats during the 2020-21 campaign, the forward scored two goals and four points.

Mardi Wagner

Defenceman Mardi Wagner of Fox Valley is the furthest recruit of the Sharks’ offseason thus far. Wagner is a strong two-way rearguard who put up two goals, eight points in 24 games from the blue line position during the 2019-20 season for the Swift Current AA Wildcats.
