Former CFL player, Eddie Steele will be coming to North Battleford on May 16.

Liberty Athletics will be hosting the former Riders’ standout for a day of football and multi-sport workshops for kids ages 5-13 at their local gymnasium headquarters.

Owner of Liberty Athletics, Lesia Goba said they are looking forward to being able to offer a new and fun way for kids to get out and active, even amidst the pandemic.

“We’re just looking to promote youth activity in our community,” she said. “Obviously with COVID and everything that has come with it, that’s just a really big hole and we want to be able to provide that, and help some kids get out of the house and get a little bit of that physical activity they might not otherwise be getting right now.”

The day will start with back-to-back football camps for ages 5-8 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and ages 9-13 from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. The multisport camps for ages 5-8 will then run from 3-4 p.m., with ages 9-13 to follow again, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.

Steele played eight seasons in the CFL, split between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Edmonton Eskimos and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was a nominee for CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2014.

All children and youth attending the event are encouraged to wear their Riders gear.

The Liberty Athletics gymnasium is located at 771 109th Street in North Battleford. For more information or to register, call Liberty Athletics at (306) 937-6606 or visit their website.
