The Battlefords North Stars will have a familiar face behind the bench for the foreseeable future, as the team announced Monday a three-year contract extension for head coach and general manager, Brayden Klimosko.

Klimosko joined the North Stars ahead of the 2018-19 season, leading the team to a first-place finish in the Global Ag. Risk Solutions Division, on their way to a league title as 2019 Canalta Cup champions.

Following the championship in his first year, Klimosko then coached the Stars to their second-winningest season in franchise history, with a league-best 45-11-2 record as an encore in 2019-20. Klimosko’s efforts were also recognized with SJHL Coach of the Year honours in a memorable second season with the black and sliver.

A Humboldt product originally, who began his career as an assistant coach with the hometown Broncos, Klimosko said looking back on his three years to this point in the Battlefords, he couldn’t have asked for a better ‘home away from home.’

“It’s been really something special here,” Klimosko said. “The organization’s been really great to me ever since I got the opportunity to come here, and I’ve got to thank the [front office] as well as the players, for having trust in me to lead this team for the last three years, and moving forward.”

Klimosko said he’s looking forward to the opportunity ahead to make many more memories in the community.

“My family and I are really happy here in the Battlefords and everyone’s treated me so well and have really opened their community and the hockey team to us,” he said. “I’m excited and we’re looking forward to being here for three more years.”

Since joining the North Stars Klimosko holds an 80-27-12 record with the team, along with a league-best 67.2 per cent winning percentage.
